Talking big news

I saw on Yahoo yesterday that thieves are stealing catalytic converters off of trucks and selling them to scarp yards and getting money for them.......SOLUTION: take the cats off of y'alls truck. my truck already doesn't have a cat so I'm in the clear.

Some of that has been going on in California. Around Sacramento, stockton area. A whole street was hit if I remember right.

Thing is California Requires them on almost everything after 1976.

Hope they get caught. California B.A.R. will have a field day with em.

cats are worth a pretty penny, too. my buddy put a CherryBomb on his S-10 and took the cat off. at the scrap yard I think it brought $30.

and wouldn't someone notice a bunch of people just laying under cars all on the same street?

I would think so, but I guess it was early in the morning.

But you know how hearsay can be.

Two to three cars can turn into the whole street pretty quick.

This has been a problem for quite some time; I took the cat off my truck before I took it in to get all new exhaust. In Texas I believe the cutoff for emissions is 25 years old. Isn't it ironic how the vehicles that are exempt from emissions tend to be the ones that pollute the most?

fmc, when I went to go get my truck inspected 2 months ago they said if it is 25 years old or older it is exempt so they just slapped a sticker on it. they didn't check anything.

In the town I live in, they hit the wal-mart just about every week. They target any vehicle that sits higher off the ground. They use a battery powered saw and they do it in broad daylight. Yesterday in a small town 60 miles away, metal thieves cut down a 100 ft. cell tower and stole the 2" copper ground cable off it.

Wow only $30? We get $60-70 per cat when we sell them (Note: I work at a repair shop. I'm not the guy out in the street with the sawzall that people never seem to notice) LOL

Just read the artical in todays paper. It said there is 2 types of metal in the cats thats getting as pricey as copper. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I'd rather see them stealin car parts than taking copper and brass items out of cemetaries. Thats just ignorant and they should lose their fingers for that. Seen alot goin on here in Pa. Makes me sick. O.K. I'm off my soapbox for now.

Yeah I know in York Pa they even been getting into houses and other public property and stealing pipes and wire. And in some instances going to the scrap yard stealing metal they sold the week before and resaling it to another yard.

If a thief gets caught stealing a CC will he be prosecuted by the EPA ?

Just joking but the EPA seems to by tougher than our court system !
