On a 1977 F-150 with facyory air ,what makes the compresser wire hot? as in I have no power to the compresser. The a/c is fully charged and cools real well if I run a hot wire to the comp.Of course then it won't cycle. If there is a pressure switch or a thermostat where are they located? Thanks
a cluth control switch that i think is located under the dash. one way to find it would be to chase the wire that connects to the compressor. the lead will should run to the control switch. i will try to chase the one on my 78f100 with factory a/c tonight and post my findings.
my previous post mentioned a clutch control switch, well after looking at my truck. the lead runs to the fuse box. i recently completed a a/c restore on a 67 fairlane and the a/c lead was not hot and it turned out to be the clutch control switch and was activated by the climate control slide on the dash. i expected the truck to be close in make up, but to my surprise its not.
>Thanks for the help. It wound up being the dash control.
I believe i have a problem with the dash control on my 79 F250. When i slide the control i can hear a little click when i move it the the A/C position, but all of the air blows out of the defrost vents in all positions. My A/C is not charged presently. 2 years ago it was charged and working great and came out of the A/C vents. How do i fix this problem? I did look under the dash and found the lever that moves the air flow from defrost to heat and moved it manually, but it won't do it from the dash controls. Any help would be great.
On my 73 it uses a vac motors that control the defrost vents, I'd check the vac lines from the intake to the 'coffee can' that sits on the drivers side to the firewall into the controls.
I think if one hose has a leak, it can cause problems for everything.
