low pressure switch

I jumped the low pressure switch and the compressor came on and cooled my 1994 5.8 Bronco. My question is can I change the low pressure switch out without removing the freon from the system? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

If it is the low pressure switch that I think it is than yes you can change it without freon loss. It is plugged into a schrader valve like a bicycle tire.
Now, since you by-passed the switch and got cold air leads me to think that your freon is low? Any chance of that?

How do you know if the freon is low? Should I buy some type of guage to measure the low and high pressure? It seems to me there is ample amount of freon but not for sure. The system does cool.

If cooling you get is what you are used to and is close to 50° then your freon charge is probably ok. It only takes around 25# pressure to close the switch so if the charge was that low it should not cool even with the switch bypassed.
