rear end decode

first off I would like to introduce myself, since I'm new to this website. My name is Ryan and I drive a 1969 Ranchero. I already tried to decode the rear end in my car, but I got a couple of different answers. I was wondering if someone could decode it for me. the tag number is as follows.
WDY-A1 8MA
3 00 8 852A

thank you for your time.

3.00 : 1 open diff,

PROBABLY a Ford 9 inch, I don't think they used the 8 for this model.

Numberdummy may stop buy with "the rest of the story..."

Besides the numbers and data plate info, and also besides looking at them side by side, I can't recall the best way to id an 8 from a 9, as from a bit of a distance, poor light, a little dirt...they look the same.

Maybe it's the cute little dimples on the butt....
