I just took the block in for maching this a.m. before I saw your post!! The good news is that AMS is where I took it. I was able to talk with craig last week and felt very comfortable having them doing the machine work on it. Now I need to decide if I am going to have the heads rebuilt or buy another set.
Good choice going with AMS. If i lived up north, they are who i would go to.... but since i live west of denver I have an old timer in denver who does GREAT work for me.
So far I have been very impressed with them. I decided to go ahead and get my kit, cam, and timing set from them as well. Darrin felt they were choices and gave me a price that is right in line from Summit. I always try to give local business my money when I can plus I don't have to mess with ordering from telephone or internet or the inverible returns.
Just an update, picked up my block and crank etc last week and everything looks great. They were a little backed up ( had 12 engines at Pinks ) and I was in no hurry so Darrin cc'd my heads and did a mock up to determine exact compression at no charge because of my patience. I have only had a few hours of free time to work on it during the last two weeks so this might be a winter project after all.
I would recomend these guys to anyone in northern colorado!
Tom
Also, another shop in the noco area i would recommend more often than AMS is RED ( racing engine design ) They do killer work too.... and i forgot about them when i posted originally.
