'01 Rager. Driving ranger and aero I see that ranger handling (especially rear axe) is not good engought, especially with empty bed. Frame is not rigid enought (IMO) Wgat you advivse to do?
Ranger already has one of the strongest frames in a compact pickup. I have found that firmer tires improve the handling, though ride quality decreases. Good shocks such as KYB or Bilstein also seem to make a big difference.
in similar conditions on wet and rought a bit road aero handles well, ranger rear end skidds and ruther dangeroulsly and I have to drive slowly having 4.0 SOHC!!!! What to do? to have 2 bags with sand in bed?
Thi sis the nature of a truck. the bed is much lighter than the front. Making it softer is not going to help. 4wd would help. Sandbags in the back centered over the axle would help.
Ranger runs like a semitractor w/o trailer... but semis have air sustention and rear stabilize bar... what about suspention for ranger on coil springs?
lower tire pressure, two sandbags in a frame to keep them over the rear axle....buy a car if all else fails OH I GOT IT , buy a Chev truck which has a much more car like ride!!!
i lowered my 96 and put wider tires on it and that thing would tear the corners/ e-way ramps and such right up, i know yours is older but mine was fairly easy to do and want very expensive at the time either....
If you are trying to cure sway/lean, then sway bars for front and rear from LMC truck are good. If it is riding too rough you could try lighter duty front torsion bars and lighter springs maybe. Look at your spring codes on your door plate. If the first charachter is a '1' you could get B codes but the front may sit lower. It will ride softer though. Your shocks may be old by now too though
weight balance is NOT the issue, check your door data sticker, at the bottom are codes, under "rear axle" if it is a number and a letter ie: R6, change the rear differential oil and add a Ford limited slip differential additive, then you can TRY unbolting the rear sway bar. Strap the pieces out of the way or remove them (dont loose any ) take it for a drive on the same road you were having problems on and see if that helps. Do remember people according to Pablo 's location he may not have good access to the same parts we can get ( you really are in the Ukraine right?? )
