Battery will not charge?

My battery went dead about two weeks afo and I recharged it and the charge lasted about three to four days. When I open the door to my truck I could hear a draining noise come from the fuse box. What can I check or have anyone ever had this problem? Thanks

check for continuity in the positive battery cables

with a voltmeter, and the truck running, check the battery terminals first ...should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts

then black lead on negative terminal and red lead on the back of the alternator at the red lead it should read the same +/-.1

there is a fusible link in the wire leading from the altenator to the battery

also check the fuses in the fuse box under the hood

and have the battery checked

Bluewolf (Ref: Battery loosing charge)?

I did what you said. The battery reads 14.68 while running and a 13.33 while idle. When the door opens the battery reading starts lowering automatically. I look in the fuse box and the two large black box fuses felt really hot. Do I pull them out and if so how do I check to see if thats the problem?

Thanks

the large black boxes are relays that feed power hungry devices without running all the power thru the switch

stuff like the fuel pump and a/c blower motor, and while operating can get hot

did you install a radio or lights recently? sounds like something is draining the battery while the truck is off

No I did not. The only thing was installed was a new alternator about a year ago. When I open the doors to the truck the battery reading starts to go down. Something is draining the battery while its not running, I open the door to the truck the other day and I heard a draining noise from the fuse box and the battery was dead. I had my son open the dorr while I kept my meter on the battery and the battery began to drain while the door was open but when I closed the door it stopped. What gives?

Thanks

try the other door and see if its the seam effect. either the dome light is pulling way to much, or the electric window motor or electric door lock wire is shorting out to ground when the door is opened. look for pinched wire harness by the door hinges????????

When I open the other door the same thing happens. I have manual door and window locks. I see no pinched wires?

does the cargo light come on with doors open?

check the headlight switch to see if the noise is coming from that...try unplugging the headlight switch to see if draw goes away

check all the exterior lights to see if any come on ( that shouldnt ) while opening the doors

if its not the headlight switch, try pulling fuses one at a time til the draw goes away

your truck manual should tell you what fuse goes to each circuit

Sounds more like either a battery on its last leg or a poor connection from the alternator to the battery (via megafuse).

Take it to your local auto parts store and have the battery tested

I removed one of the relays and the lights went out. I put the rel;ay back in and it started to make the noise I here right before the battery starts to drain. is that a sign of a bad relay?

it means the circuit is active, did you look in the manual to see what circuit it goes to?
