Driving home tonight the truck started bucking and jerking and didn't run right. It idled fine, and goes at full throttle, but everything in between is not right. I'm not real sure where to start looking.
Sounds like carb trouble to me as well, much like the primary is blocked a bit. Try tapping the side of the carb with a plastic hammer , GENTLY , with the motor running and see if the RPM changes on it own. I have cleared trouble like this by doing this or at least isolated the problem .
Grud can build up in the fuel bowl and cause some problems like that, usually it clears itself. You might check your fuel filter just to see what's in it but if it's reaching high r's it should be ok
I agree, check the accelerator pump. With the truck off, pull the air cleaner off, and look down the throat of the carb. Pull the throttle and you should see two nice streams of gas shoot onto the venturis.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I found that the ground wire in the distributor was worn through and must have been getting ground only at idle and full acceleration.
Glad to hear. Sounds like you have points? Those can be a pain.
That's right, My Grandpa was standing there and said back when he had a farm truck like this he replaced the condenser and points every winter and never had a problem. Since this truck is older than me I am not real familiar with some of the components.
Understandable. My Galaxie has points and they are a pain to keep after. I had that same problem as you a few years back and had to replace the breakerplate and ground wire. If they really get to be a pain, I'd recommend looking at a Pertronix Ignitor setup which retrofits a Hall effect sensor (the same breakerless switch in Duraspark) in place of points. It keeps the original look and you don't have to keep replacing points.
I've noticed something about people I know (outside these forums) and even a few people inside, that when there's a problem "Rebuild the Carb!" - kind of like in Star Trek, if there's a problem "Reverse the Polarity!".

Just thought I might point that out.
Now Now...We only Reverse the Polarity if the newtron flow gets disrupted. Nothing worse then a disrupted flow...
Actually while it may seem like a knee jerk reaction? Just about every drive ability issue starts with checking the fuel system as it can be the most problematic. 2nd only to an ignition problem where the symptoms are normally "dead truck with no spark". Oddball issues with worn wiring are not quite as common as problems as people make them out to be. Yes they do and can fail! However when working a troubleshoot problems? You always start with the weakest areas known to cause those problems first.
