Even though I have owned many Ford trucks in my life and still own 4 I just bought my first Excursion. I know gas is expensive but I value my family and their safety so I went big. This one to me is an oddball. It is a 2003 XLT with a 5.4 4wd power everything except seats, heated mirrors, cloth interior, rear heat and air, 3 row seating, AM FM cass CD player. It has 82000 miles, What is strange is that it has no carpet, just rubber mats all throughout, it has plain steel wheels with black plastic hubcaps and single tone grey paint. I plan on wheels and tires, charcoaling the lower portion of the paint, and putting carpet in it. It needs a grille and a rear bumper. What you all think? Oh by the way, I paid 4500.00 for it.

Ford produced some Excursions with an XLS trim level and others that were special service vehicles. The XLS was pretty much a stripped down version, and the special service vehicles were stripped down in regards to amenities, but I believe they may have been "beefed-up" in other areas like the suspension. I can't provide any hard details, just going from memory.

Congats on the the excursion, sounds like you got a great deal. I just bought a 2000 excursion myself. I wish mine had the rubber mat instead of the carpet, a lot easier to clean.

Im definately putting carpet in this one, at least in the front two rows. This is an XLT, is says so on the rear door. Im looking forward to driving it, I had a 2004 superduty with a 5.4 and it did fine. I now have a 95 F350 PSD and a 2001 Suprecrew with a 5.4.

Now you've put me in a pickle, Pat...I don't know whether to drive my pickup or my folks' X down to your party, whenever that may be.

Oh, wait....13 MPG in the truck vs 10 MPG in the X...nevermind.

Welcome to the club!
Pat

Not to many 4x4 with the V8 out there. My guess is that the front seat is a bench seat. Still a good vehicle.
