I've been looking at EX's off and on for about a year now, and really got bit this past year at our annual FTE meet at Carlisle when more members showed up with them. I found this one, a one owner, 2002 XLT V10 with only 60K on it. I've been haggling with the dealer over price for about a week and sealed the deal today. I love this thing already, the ride back up the interstate was exquisite compared to my 86, and even the company Accord. I look forward to spending time up here. The took it on trade in December, and put all new tires, brakes, rotors, sway-bar links, and a new Motorcraft battery as well as some small maintenance stuff. It also has never tows heavy, it was a kid hauler. The 7-pin is still virgin. aside from cleaning and painting the under carriage(one reason for the haggling) It's good to go. Well that and the in dash dvd and camera install. Later on I'll address the springs, but the steering box is still tight. I think it should haul my little 22' Wilderness travel trailer just fine.
Well on to the build info and pics. I apologize in advance, it was dark by the time I got home.
First the ETIS info.

Parsons had it on their web site for $14,291. I hope you got it cheaper. Cause I had an unlimited with 57,000 miles for $12,995.
The air bag thing bothers me too. It looks like the passenger side air bag has been popped and replaced. Go back to the dealer and make them give you a Carfax.
Quite a bit cheaper actually... They wanted to move it for the end of the month. I have the carfax. Clean and the color is a lighting issue. It's the same color as the rest of the dash it doesn't stick out in person. May be the dash grease they coated the damn thing in.

Cool! End of the month is the best time.
Come to think of it, I have a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with dark blue interior. While many of the plastic, rubber and hard vinyl parts appear to be the same color in person, they do show up different colors in digital pictures. That must be all that's happening in your Excursions images.
That was my thought. One of the first things I checked was for any signs of body work, as I sell body parts and can recognize them pretty easily, and body dust/overspray is always easy to spot. If I take the pic on my iphone it's not as bad. This was a real camera... maybe more sensitive, and if you look at the daytime shots on their site it really doesn't show either... Now to add fog lights...
Just be careful playing around with the electrical system. These Excursions are very tempermental when you start slicing or dicing wires.
And when your friends start admiring your Excursion, tell them you know where there's a 2003 Limited with 57,000 miles for sale, $12,995. Never wrecked, excellent condition, and no known defects whatsoever. I actually drove it several times last week. I put it back in the garage when the ice and snow forecasts snuck up on us!
When I add the fog's I'll be using the OE switch and inserting the pin into the harness to a relay. Same as a dodge that I had a while back. I do not like aftermarket switches and splices. The same when I do the head unit installs, the harness that I make ends up looking factory.
