I had my egr valve replaced at the dealer after some power lag issues, I decided then to unplug the connector to see how it reacted. I have a 2005 6.0 and it threw no codes so I was happy with that. I took the camper out this weekend and no problems until, I was coming up a hill in low gear and when I let off the throttle I heard what I guess is turbo flutter or turbo fart, I have read it called here. Do I have a problem related to the EGR being diconnected? ,do I need to connect the plug in when towing? or is this normal. I have towed this trailer before and this is the first I have ever heard this.
This may be a stupid question, but what is a gutted turbo? I ask, because I am on my third turbo at 110K miles, in my '03 6.0, and have been wondering if this variable geometry bs is worth anything at all. Is that what you are referring to? Is there a better after market turbo for these trucks?
Regarding the turbo fart, isn't that the waste gate dumping excess boost. When you are climbing a hill, with your foot in it, your are generating max boost. When you let off suddenly, doesn't the intale over pressurize, and need an outlet?
I don't believe there is any coorelation between the disconnected EGR valve and the turbo fart. Turbo fart is rather common when letting off the throttle when at max boost. The 6.0 doesn't have a pop off valve or waste gate to relieve the built up intake pressure. The only place for the built up intake charge to go is back out your intake, hence the "fart" sound. Based on your description, what you're experiencing is normal.
