From what ive heard... you need special tools to install the clutch discs... which sucks cause i want to replace mine too.
Do you have it apart just to replace the clutches, or are you changing gear ratio too?
Yep, the ratio but have a extra 4:10 diff ....... i wanted to do this myself but special tools you mention must be the ticket.
3:73 is slipping and out as you see, my 4:10 in the L is fine but i like both ratio's, depends on the hook and tires.
Looked thru my Ford shop manual and naturally they have a special tool for everything but don't see exactly what i need, guess the D*** dealer is the only way.....huh!!
i took mine to a gear shop to fix the chattering in the rear end, watched them take my clutch pack out with a big screw driver and pry bar they just walked the gears out. also another thing he did was made a tool that compressed the insides of the clutch to do that. sorry about the terminology don;t know what exacly everything is called in there. d

Interesting, i might figure out to pry the pinion gears out but sure wish i had some idea about making this tool...
