Put on the rear bumper today!

Haven't done much work on the 53 since I got back from the States, still in lulla land from seeing some nice F100's. I modified the brackets so the bumper doesn't hang down to far.

That looks good. Much better than stock position. I did a similar positioning on my 49.

Looks great. I am debating on snugging my bumper up also, but I have the stock type tag bracket that mounts on the driver's side taillight and the snugging would cover it up.
What are your plans for your tag and location?

Looks very good.. how did you accomplish that? haven't seen many and think this looks SO much better..

I am running without a bumper, mostly cause I didn't like the huge gap..
(and didn't think of trying to close it!)

Looking good Paul.

Sam, you can get the brackets from mid-fifty, that's what I used.

yep, missed that, Page 28 of the 2008 cat

SNUGGER REAR BUMPER BRACKETS, brings bumper up 2”
in 3”, closes gap between bed & bumper, a neater, cleaner look.

Last Chance 56 I am planning on putting the tag in the middle of the bumper, underneath. Just making a small angle brkt and bolting it on to the bumper.
Sdetweil and Rich 55 I chopped the brkt at the point where it bends upwards and re drilled the wholes to make it fit. Though I didn't know mid fifty's has already made brackets. nevermind. Cheers All

I made my own custom brackets out of SS that I polished. I fabricated them to exactly where I wanted the bumper both removing the gap and tucking them into the body. I had some 1/4" ss stock left over from a boat project.

That's nice Paul, are the replacement chrome bumpers hard to keep up?,someone was telling me that the "new" chrome tarnished much easier than the old chrome. That looks great.now that you have closed up the gap.
later, Mike

I saw a cad drawing for the tucked brackets somewhere once....

never saw the 'look' until last year's supernationals....

came home and dissected bracket to bring er up and in on 56... got to admit time was cheaper than the purchased ones...

not sure bout the new chrome... went stainless...

but to each their own... what is is alllll about.

That looks great, Paul. I much prefer the bumper up and tucked. I would like to cut an 1.5" piece out of the angle on miount and do the same thing, But I like the way my '55 tag mounts in the space tween the bottom of the tailgate and the bumper. This plate is 13"x 5" as opposed to a modern 12X6". If I could find some other place to mount the tag, I'd wack it tommorrow. The extra 1" of length precludes it from mounting in an underlight holder.

Looks good. I did the same thing. Cut the long brackets at the bend instead of buying new ones. It worked. Looks much cleaner.
