I have a 66 F250 4x4 with the 58 style box. It appears to be reasonably untouched over the years. It has the custom cab crests on the doors, but doesn't have the side trim, vinyl door panels, or sweep style speedo. It is the round speedo with separate oil and volt gauges on a chrome panel. I thought the 65-66 CCs all had the sweep style speedo. The truck has a padded dash, and stainless trim around the windshield. Also, did any of these 4x4 stylesides ever have the side trim? Because the box lines don't exactly match the cab lines, it makes it a little difficult to do a two tone job. The truck is brown now, but originally turquoise, and I would like to bring it back to the original color, and like others on the forum, I think an all turquoise truck would be too much turquoise. Perhaps you could only get one color schemes with these trucks. If anyone can direct me to a photo of a two tone job I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Hi..
Not sure of the trim applications that make a custom cab...it may well be you have a truck that was a special order or one that's been put together from parts here and there...best way to tell is to furnish the Door Tag information..that tag is on the left (driver's) door. There are experts on this site that have ciphers to give you the skinny on your truck how it was built, when, where trim package etc...
Would you like a 66 Styleside bed with 2 Saddle Tanks and CC Trim? If so, let me know, I've got one out in the back 40 sq. ft. Pretty clean for a 41 year old bed, no dents...only a couple scrapes here and there...
Go the SF Bay Area Craigslist.com and enter 408-310-6611 in the search bar...the truck, in all its glory is there along with a photobucket slide show...
Let me know what your thoughts are..
BTW: My 66 F250 is all Turqoise from the factory...looks all right..but that's just my opinion...

It wasn't the leaving or arriving that I enjoyed it was the drive in my 66 F100
Thanks for the lead on the box, but I'd rather have the 58 style box because that is what is correct for this truck even if to some it doesn't look right.
The door tag info is:
F26YR792562
WB 120
Color B
Model F260
Body C81
Trans A
Axle B5
GVW 6800
172 Hp @ 4000 = 352 engine
DSO 720794
I think that Ford quit putting that style bed on in 1964? There's a thread on here about that. Btw: Are you sure about that WB...could it be you have a shortbed (1/2 ton) with 250 badges and a heavy duty package...possibly Spicer/Dana 44 or 60...
if you go to my gallery, I have all of the various package compositions including Custom Cab from FoMoCo literature.
Your tag decodes as follows:
F26 = F series F250 3/4 ton 4WD
Y = 352 V8 engine, 2bbl carb.
R = San Jose, Ca assembly plant
792562 = Dec. 1965 build date
Color B = Turquoise
Body = C81 = Green interior(need clarification from ND a lil bit on it)
Trans = A...3 speed trans...according to my dealer book they were offered with only Warner T89 3 speed or the NP 4speed...Im not certain if the T89 was a column shift trans or not, I suspect so given the A code even though its not a standard issue 3 speed. If Im wrong, I ask to be corrected.
WB = 120 = 4WD F250(F260).. ONLY wheelbase on 3/4 ton 4WD trucks in 1966 in inches.
Axle = B5 = 4.56 locking rear end
6800 GVW = max weight truck can carry in pounds
DSO 720794 = 72 is San Jose, Ca..where truck was ordered from by original selling dealer. This truck is a special order as evidenced by the other 4 digits as a 'typical' DSO would be 2 numbers.

Reason: corrected info...
Thanks for that info Camperspecial. I checked the CC feature list in your gallery, and it seems that my truck has pretty much all of it except the trim on the inside of the door. There is evidence that there may have been door sill trim, but all thats left are holes where it would have been screwed down. The trans is a 4spd. I just got the truck and drove it from southern Oregon to my place here in BC, about 900 miles. I guess the 4.56s might be the reason I got a solid 10mpg, and that's highway driving... no wonder she barely felt the hills. oh well, I bought it to pull my old airstream so it shouldn't have much trouble, as long as there are lots of gas stations along the way. Incidentally, does anyone know the capacity of the in cab tank. The most I put in was 13.8 gallons, and the gauge was reading close to empty.
The only odd ball is the 66 F100 4x4. It shares the wheel base of the 2 wheel dirve short and long trucks and used the 64 up bed.
The F100 4x4 for 61 thru 65 shared the same basic chassis as the 59 114" and 120" wheel base.
The F250 4x4 for 61 thru 66 shared the same basic chassis as the 59 120" wheel base only.
Beds were the flairside or optional style side 57 to 60 bed.
The wrong bed trucks were really hard to get two tone correctly as the body lines mismatched. A Brite white roof works well.
You may be able to get a set of 65 66 trim to fit but with the mis match body line?
I did see a 65 with the eariler 63 64 hood bezels and a full set of 63 only trim but it was probally added by the owner or a PO.
My old 61 f100 had the turquoise lower with Corinthian White upper originally. When I got the truck it still had the original white but was Bahama Blue from the early 70's on the bottom.
Garbz..I think you are referring to the truck at the meet...65 grille with earlier side trim...I caught that one right off...got good pic of it too..
As for the bed difference issue...my best guess is Ford wasnt sure about the dbl walled styleside bed and since they had not so good luck with the uni's they wanted to keep a tried and true companion and did so on the toughest/hardest worked trucks in theory...the 4WD's...plus with the early bed you can haul a fair amount more wood...I went out on weekly or bi weekly wood cutting excursions with my best friend and his dad in the early 80s in his 64...ahhh super memories which we still rehash...I rememeber us both wondering about the odd body line issue too...
On the 66 F100 4WDs...you could get them in both 115 and 129 wb....with styleside(dbl wall box shown) and flareside(fat fendered box shown) and chassis-cab models..this is all from my salesman book that Ford had for 1966
On an interesting sidenote I just noticed...not to steer the thread in a diff. direction...66 rangers...on 4WD...offered only on 4WD..console was an option...pkg not avail. on 3/4 ton 4WD..
As for the paint issue...it says optional is two-tone, regular..I have no idea what regular is...on the 2WD tutones it offers two tone regular---all cab models and also offers two-tone deluxe---stylesideswhich included the side mldgs a t/light bezels. Id love to know wjat a regular tutone is myself...
The fuel capacity is listed as 19.5 US gallons.
Garbz...the square, if you will, side trim was used on 63 and 4...3 different box variations for 1963 models ...2 in 64 as the uni was deceased by then...it was indeed used on 64 trucks...both the dbl walled styleside seen most often and the single wall 4WD type box carried over from the previous generation of trucks.

Reason: added info
Shoud have read 63,64 only, as no trim was offered for the 61,62s.
I have pics of that truck too, but its not the one i was thinking of.
There is a 65 here in Phoenix owned by A Navy LT stationed in Guam that has the 64 trim and badges on a 65 F250 4x4. And it is a true 65 with a 240 3 speed on the collumn.
In fact is is one of the nicest 4x4s i have seen in a while. Arizona truck and fully restored as best as possible to stock.
theres an explanation for the badges...IF that truck is an early 65...side trim to the best of my knowlege should be the wide 65-6 type...BUT..IF that truck was a very early 65 I gather its possiblr to have the early trim...the plant could have been trying to use us what they had potentially...
Here is a photo of my truck. I will be putting stock rims back on it. Were the stock rims painted white originally? In another thread I asked about hubcaps, and found it would be correct to have either no hubcaps or bottle caps on the rear only. Was the original size tire a 7.50x16? There are 33x12.50s on it now and would like to keep that diameter or maybe bigger like a 9.00x16, but in a comparibly sized radial.
