I wanted to pass on an experience with a new product from WIX (33818). WIX redesigned their diesel filter in February with a new flat gasket. This was an attempt to make the problem of the beveled gasket a thing of the past. I recently installed the filter but it seeped around the edge even after I tightened the filter down. I called tech support and they asked me how I installed it. I told them I rubbed a small amount of diesel on the gasket and tightened it down. The support tech told me that was my problem I should have used motor oil and not diesel on the gasket. He said I needed to read the instructions because it specifically said to add oil to the gasket. I told him that was not true; nothing in the instructions talked about using motor oil on the gasket. Sure enough he pulled the instructions and ate his words. I took the filter back got another one...placed some motor oil on the gasket and tightened it down...no leak. I talked to the tech’s boss and he said you should never put diesel fuel on the gasket, maybe they’ll add that to the instructions now. I’ve always added diesel with the other filters I’ve used but apparently on WIX filters you should not do it.
Thats good to know. I wonder why that make a difference. Unless its because of the ULSD being dryer, and not letting the gasket slide on the cap. Glad you put him in his place.

This is news to me. I've always used diesel fuel on the gaskets.
very soon they will tell us to run special grese to put on the gasket, this is balony . they Fubared up somthing. this thing cant take diesel than it shoud not be there. what a load of garbage...... id say stay away from WIX.......and help out Ford. i hope they wont start selling those junks now, under FoMoCo label.....
You gotta love a diesel fuel filter that says to not let the sealing gasket come into contact with diesel. Probably shouldn't let their air filters come into contact with air either.

put a plastic bag over the filter before installation, your warranty will be voided if it touches your finger.... LMAO
He said the gasket will swell and deform if you use diesel fuel. The material the gasket is made of needs to have oil on it at first so the gasket will seat properly when you first put the thing on. After you get the lid screwed down it doesn’t make a difference. He was adamant about it...he made it sound like I should have known you would use oil. I was dumbfounded...but he seemed to know what he was talking about. All I know is that damn thing didn’t leak so I’m happy.

I am glad I found this thread. I too put ths filter on my Excursion and keep smelling diesel fuel. I will see if I can get a new one exchanged and use oil on the gasket. Kind of ticks me off...
I put in a new fuel filter in my 02 last week after having the fuel bowl off while working on my hpop. It was a NAPA Gold filter which is a WIX. It had the flat gasket as mentioned and it didn't leak on me after I installed it. I used diesel fuel to lubricate the gasket before I tightened the lid down too. I guess I just got lucky. I can't say whether the instructions said to lubricate the gasket with oil or not because, well, I didn't read them!! shame on me

The instructions for the WIX fliter from NAPA do not say anything about lubricating the gasket. I just swapped my filter with the NAPA Gold and I'm seaping fuel at the gasket. I installed it dry per instructions of the NAPA store. I noticed a fuel smell coming through the cabin air system. Where is the pick up for the cabin air?
Anyone found the gaskets separately? This is a pain in the ***.
