e150conversion van problems

I PURCHASED A USED 97 E150 W/ 30000 MILES ON IT AND I CAN'T DRIVE IT 70 MPH WITHOUT CONSTANTLY STEERING IT. AROUND TOWN IT IS NOT SO NOTICEABLE BUT ON ROAD IT IS A JOB DRIVING, AS VAN IS ALL OVER THE ROAD & WITH A BOAT ON BEHIND IT IS DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS I'VE HAD IT IN FORD GARAGE (STILL IN WARRANTY) AND ALL THEY SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO DO IS GIVE THE SECTOR ADJ (.3 HOUR) A TWIST AND SEND ME ON MY WAY. ALL THIS ACCOMPLISHED WAS STEERING STARTED SQUEELING LIKE IT MIGHT IF YOU WERE TRYING TO TURN W/ TIRE AGAINST CURB-HYDRAULIC KIND OF SQUEEL. NEXT FORD GARAGE TURNED ADJUSTER BACK TO WHERE IT DIDN"T SQUEEL AND SO NOW I AM BACK TO WHERE I STARTED. IT SEEMS NO ONE CAN PUT FINGER ON LOOSENESS- IS IT BALLJOINTS? IS IT WORN WORM GEAR &SECTOR ???
ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS TYPE OF LOOSENESS/ AND HOW DID YOU CORRECT? I THINK WORM & SECTOR IS SHOT BUT W/ THIS MILEAGE THAT SEEMS IMPROBABLE.

e150conversion van problems

Has it been in an accident and possibly have a frame problem? I have a '94 conversion van and it runs straight.

e150conversion van problems

I just bought my 2nd Ford E-150. I've driven a Ford van since '89 and don't think I'll ever own anything else. Both of mine drive straight and true and always did. Except one time, maybe 8 years ago, when I brought it in for a front end alignment. The tech told me Ford front ends eat tires and he could align it to better than Ford specs. When I expressed my reservations he said "trust me if you don't like it I can always set it back to spec". On my way home I jumped on the parkway and as soon as I got up to 55-60 mph the front-end felt as loose as a rubber neck goose. I went right back and had him realign it to FORD SPECIFICATIONS. Problem solved.

The moral of the story. Have your van's front-end aligned to
Ford specs!

Good Luck,

I have had a 90, 92 and currently am selling a 94 E150 converison, they have all driven straight and true. The 94 is exhibiting some other probs right now, but i let her sit for 6 months and that may be a factor. Gotta love a conversion van, all the room and all the comfort.
