What is normal operating temp. for egt on or around 100kms/hr?
Depends on where the probe is mounted (pre-turbo or post-turbo), what power level you are running in, etc. Mine runs around the 600 degree mark on flat ground.
1700 to 1400 to 1900. He pulls over, shuts the truck off and then it returns to 400.
The truck temp is normal.
Could it be the turbo on its way out?
Definitely malfunctioning sensor system, check the nut connections and for frayed wires, then look at replacing the probe. Your truck would not dorp heat like that if the temps were really high, also there would be other symptoms of that high of a temp. If you can turn the edge off, your truck will be fine to drive till you can figure it out.
tell him to unplug it and finish his drive home......the sensor is bad, like Mike said earlier.....if the gauge was right, his piston would be completely fried and melted by now.
Rus, either your manifold coupler or your gauge or both may wrong. Also, a bad ground will make the sensor read wrong. I would turn down the chip and get a temporary sensor and gauge and check it. The normal temp should be around 750 to 900. 1,300 melts pistons.

The "normal" temp kind of depends on mods installed and air temps. I can roll at 60 mph (about 100 kph) at under 500 sometimes on flat ground. Other times, it's a bit higher. I have spiked mine up over 1600 while chasing a gasser Chebby -- as long as you don't hold it there for long, no damage will happen. Guys that pull sleds spike theirs higher than that and their engines are surviving. Aluminum melts at about 1220* F, so keep that in mind when pulling heavy loads up a long hill. The reason you can get away with it for short durations is that it takes time to heat the whole piston up before it melts. There are also cooling jets under them as well. So you can push it for a short time, but keeping it up that high for long periods will definitely turn your piston into funny shapes.
I know of two people having problems with there attitude monitor. Both guys threw it away because of the problems. You should do the same and just get the gauge pod with the DP-tuner.
I don't have any chip, but have done some research into them. I seem to remember the attitude being able to change the over-temp setting and even disabling it from the screen. At least you wouldn't have to remove anything on the road to disable the pyrometer.
I had it on the millage setting #1 crusing at 110 kmh when it started heating up (or acting up). Flat Ground. But i am scared to shut of the moniter incase something is going wrong and it does have a melt down! i need to get back home so i can fix it. 1062 kms to home.
