I've always had a pet peeve about not being able to block the outside air during the winter. During summer it's easy because I always run "Max Air". But unless you want hot air in your face in the winter there's no way to keep the bad odors/chemicals out.
Can anyone give me some direction on how to add a recirculate function to my system?
2000 is too new for my wallet, but if you have a vacuum operated recirc door, you can Tee into it with your 'own' switched vacuum source to operate the vacuum motor. You have to look under the dash for the recirc grill and see what operates the flap. If it is a shiny cylinder with a fat shaft sticking out that connects to a crank, then it is probably vacuum. If it is electrical, don't ask me.
The other option may be an EXPENSIVE lesson if it doesn't work. If it is electric, then there may be a mode switch that, if it breaks, is VERY expensive to replace (8+hours labor to drop the dash). That said, you could block the door open in MAX A/C with a prop of some sort... BUT beware that the mode switch may try to motor on past that blockage and burn something up that costs a lot to repair...

thats a good idea but i think id set it to recirk then just unhook the motor if its electric. that way no need to block it and no risk a short or burnt motor. i have the same peeve but my bronco 2 has the recirc fresh air option on it.

exploder and a spouse with allergies. She is always futzing with the a/c during wintertime. This or a filter or both, IMHO Ford missed
an opportunity, most Japanese cars seem to have one or both options
on their a/c so it should not have been a big engineering obstacle
to add.
