When I'm towing my F'ver my trans tempature will run around 170-175 in a level tow,on the grades it will got up to around 180,and in stop and go traffic the tempature will climb to arounnd 190.as soon a I clear the traffic it will cool back down.
The outside air tempature was around 90 degrees and had air condtion running wide open,my f'ver weight is around 9000
That's about normal when towing - Did you just put the temp gauge in and notice this?
Or was it running cooler and suddenly is running hotter doing the exact same things?
Have had the temp gauge in since last fall and have never really towed any distance until last week. The 170 didnt bother me as much as 190 did.I was just wandering if what I was seeing is normal.
That is perfectly normal. I have a 99 DRW 7.3 and pulling my 5'er which is 40ft and around 16,000 loaded my trans temp runs right around 160-190 on the freeway towing in OD with the A/C on high. When in stop and go traffic and out of overdrive it has gotten up to around 210 before. My trans guy said dont worry about it unless it gets upwards of 245-250 then keep an eye on it and if it keeps creeping up pull over and cool it off before you get going again. My trans guy said I should be good to 260. Hope that helps
