It could be a lot of things. Probably the most common items to lead to a clunk would be the universal joints. It could also be worn bushings in the rear suspension links. If those check out, then make sure that your ring and pinion lash isn't excessive (if it has changed, then you may have bigger issues). I have also found that sloppy pinion bearings will cause a clunk. But the last two come when you cycle on/off throttle, not so much over bumps. I would look at the joints or bushings first...

I found it helpful to have the car e-brake on wheels chocked and someone shifting the van thru D-N-R, R-N-D while I am below tracing out the noise.

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking bushings. Its sounds like your spare tire is loose. Clanging against the frame. Driving me nuts. I'm at 199k miles. Only on bumpy roads and rebounds going over/in driveways.

From your pics with the mean winters and all I figure your country uses allot of rock salt no? In Missouri my Aero made an unruly noise. What happened to me is that the cup that holds the bottom end of my coil spring had rusted away allowing the coil spring to desprung itself. Lucky for me I caught it in time before it became a projectile.

Remember--gloves then hands on EVERYTHING. Wiggle around everything within an eye shot.

Another idea--however you are able to recreate your "clunk" allow someone to drive your Aero in the same manner as you propose and then simply sit in the back with the sliding windows open.--Boz

Found it. The threads on the lower shock bolt had ground off. Allowing the bolt to rattle around in the bushing.

Look! I got all: shock bolts, controll arms, front UJs, center bearing.

I got front brake pad rattle too. This noise drives me crazy.... Fortunatly I have no fire arm in cars (:-))).

My GF and me were in shooting galery last week. My nervous system was saved. But now I have shoulder ache... Shooting makes me feel better and be not so neurves.

I gonna make my Taurus ride first and give aero some rest time to have suspention fully fixed.
