I'm not looking for loud, competition level sound and equipment for my truck. All i want is something that sounds better than the stock one.
I have a 1996 Ford F150 extended cab. The interior has a bench seat in back and two captains chairs in the front. As far as I know, the stock speakers are 6x9 in the rear and 6 1/2 in the front.
So far i have my mind set on just replacing the speakers with Polk db's, the Rockford Fosgate CD deck, and adding a sub powered by a Rockford 250a amp. So here is my problem.
I'm mainly looking for security, i want everything practically bolted down and in the front cabin. So that means no sub in the bed because i want to keep everything low cost by not buying something i really don't want, like a new camper shell or top cover. Keep in mind this is not competition grade! I don't want to sacrafice room in the extended cab cuz i love the company when i do have some. Does anybody know what type of sub is small enoegh to fit in my extended cab but will not take up too much space?
check this out.... i was thinkin about getting the rear bench pulled out to be converted to a seat/sub enclosure housing (maybe a 10") what do you think? how much?
OH YEAH.... what should i start with first??? speakers or deck?
SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!
Thanks.
Here are some great audio sites to check out. The first few have advice & message boards to help decide. The others have GREAT prices on equipment.

I own a 96 F150 Eddie Bauer regular cab. This summer I put in a Pioneer CD Reciever and that alone about doubled the sound quality. This Christmas I replace all four speakers with Rockford Fosgate 2ways. The door speakers are 6", not 6.5" I bought the 6.5" and had to cut about 1/4" all the around the speaker hole to make them fit. The rear speakers are 6"x8". They are really just 5"x7"'s with different mounting holes. These Fosgate speakers sound great. I ordered a sub yesterday to put behind the seat. I would definitely recommend replacing the reciever first, then the speakers, and finally a sub if you desire.
the front speakers are 6 1/2"..i believe the other fella probably purchased 6 1/2"s speakers...they are larger for larger , mostly european applications...i personally would replace the speakers first..then the head unit.....speakers give you a more noticable sound improvement, better bass and clearer highs..also, remember, if you amplify your four speakers they will sound 100% better, even with the factory deck...you can get many small, sealed box subs...the best being Polk and Infinity Perfect series....I had the top of the Line Power 10 by Fosgate and it worked great, till it fell apart...i now have bostwick..which i much prefer over fosgate..with fosgate you're paying alot for name, especially their amps...try looking in Crutchfield at US Accoustics amp..they're much less expensive and have better reliability and much cleaner sound....you can purchase a 4 channel amp and a triway crossover and power your whole system with one amp..
for a sub i actually had a 6 1/2" kicker sub/boom tube...and it actually sounded alright...wouldnt win any comp. but that kicker was a bulldog behind the seat.....it held a big amp
First for your upgrade get a quality deck with at least two pre-amp output, then upgrade your speakers, then last go with the amp.
My friends and I did his 97 F150, it sounds very nice, his system is made up with Kicker 5X7 in the rear and 5X7 in the front both are from kicker. The nice thing about is that the tweeters you can adjust the angle so you can control your highs. Also make sure that you get an amp that has can support 25 RMS per channel. With 25 to 50 RMS watts, it should be enough to power a nice clean system.
Last if you ever want to get your music even clearer and nice then get an equalizer so you can control the sound freq.
