I am installing a Kenwood Excelon Deck in the X (KDSX869) along with 2 pair of MB Quart speakers in the doors, topped off with a JLAudio Stealth Box (10") sub in the rear cargo hold.
it is quite apparant that I am going to need 3 amps (I like the rockford fosgates) 1 for the Sub, and 1 for each pair of speakers (ok, so I can probably consolidate the 4 door speakers into a single 4 channel amp)
anyhow, before I outlay cash for amps, where oh where to mount these amps. my goal is to keep their visability to a minimum as well as out of he way of everyday use, and retain the ability to cary cargo with the back seats folded flat. if anyone has any ideas, or pics of custom audio installs I would appreciate some input.
so far I have ruled out:
under the back seat (prolly cant fold em down)
under the front seats (no room)
behind the rear trim panels, or in the rear heater area.
Originally posted by gruven Actually, RF just started rating their amps (up until 2002) by the bridged 2 ohm RMS output. After 2002, they went crazy and just overrated them.
I noticed last week that the RF amps have a sheet inside that appears to be the results of a benchtest on the piece you are buying. I believe it listed the conditions of the rating (RMS, ohms etc) I'll have to go back and pay more attention this time. The numbers were definitely lower than the ones on the outside of the box. (for one model in particular the tested ratings were around 265-275 VS 300 RMS rating on the outside of the box). So I guess in their minds they have told you the truth, but by no accident not until you have laid down the money.
I have noticed all the real low buck amps have ridiculously high ratings for the money. Are RF and others trying to compete with that? Not that they should.
the company's just gotten too big, and more concerned with profit than product, its happening with everyone these days
guess we got to start paying more attention to the new smaller companies that are now where RF was 15 years ago
I'm pretty ignorant myself, can anyone suggest some new quality brands?
Yes, the new 2003 models of the RF amps have crazy numbers on the amps. That is so they will compete with all the other businesses. Most average people will buy on name recognition and wattage, so they started posting the highest possible output bridged mono by a 2 ohm load, which they don't even advertise to be stable.
The RF Birth Sheet to which you are referring, is the correct RMS output of the amp. The name of the amp, such as RF Punch Power 501s will tell you how many watts it is capable of.
501s = 250 x 2 @ 2 ohms RMS, 500 x 1 @ 4 ohms mono
Yeah, the Power series is a lot better than the Punch series.
Haha, they did have some great cheater amps back in the day. I have one sitting beside me as a matter of fact. Punch 150! That bad boy is nice.
Ok, Im sold on the RF Power series, but in all honesty, I am not brand specific at this point, I just want to get a good deal on some awesome sound.
any suggestions?
The Sub is rated to handle 300 Watts max.
the door speakers are rated at 90-150 Watts a pair (I am installing a pair in the front and rear doors) but that may be overkill considering that they are MB Quart Q-Series

Im not saying to buy this specific amp. It is a suggestion.
Whats the budget? JL make nice amps and so does avionixx. The RF type rf series and top of the line rf amps with digital controls. MTX makes a desent amp for the money. Memphis is good too. Dollar for dollar i would go Avionixx or jbl. You only need a 4ch amp. Run the rear from the radio and bridge the rear amp ch's to the sub.

MB Quarts want a little more than 10wrms(if that).
Why would you recommend a 4 channel when a 5 channel is exactly what he needs? The cost between the two is negligible.
Discounting price, i would never recommend someone african-engineer their set-up. I would never recommend someone use stock deck power their aftermarket speakers? To me, it sounds like an invitation to ruining a good set of speaks. IE.....clipping the deck because it doesnt have enough power to run the speakers, and frying the coils. Lets just say you knew exactly how to tune to avoid this, they still would only be performing 1/4 of their potential. Waste of cash......
I assure you he doesnt need a four channel amp, he can use one yes, but he sure as heck doesnt need one.
