My truck has been converted from a long bed with dual tanks, to a short bed with only rear tank. The wiring for the rear part of the truck was also botched up pretty good. The selector valve was left in place and the line capped off for the front tank. Recently the selector valve went bad (I think) so I just bypassed it. When the switch is in the up position the guage reads full, but when it is down it goes skitzo. Sometimes it works right, but other times it just doesn't work at all and stays on empty. Is the up position for the front tank and the down position for the rear tank? How would I go about troubleshooting this? I searched and found some posts, but they were all too old and the pictures didn't work anymore. Thanks.
I have a 1987 F250 Diesel that I believe the fuel tank selector valve quit working. I was told the FTSV is the same for all F250's. I found one from an '84 F250 but the plug is different and the Ford dealer doesn't have an up to date wiring diagram. Any ideas?
My situation is a bit different I think because my truck has been cut up quite a bit. I only have one fuel tank now so I just completely bypassed the FTSV. I used one of the in-line filters as a connector with the plastic lines to rubber line and did it that way. I think my issue is in the in tank sending unit maybe. I will have to drop the tank to find out.
Well, my fuel is bypassing the valve but my guage still reflects on which tank is selected. I'll have to get one of my friends over to see if we can rewire the fuel guage. If we can I don't have any problem selling it to you. Hopefully I'll have time to look at it this weekend. I'll let you know either way though.
