So my wife clipped a mailbox and the mirror broke away. Problem is, it cracked the mirror glass (destroyed) when it hit the side window. Seemingly not a big deal. I ordered the new glass through Ford. Next problem, it did not come with the white tabs on the mirror so the power will not work for adjustments. Of course, these small parts are not orderable through Ford and the glass is non-returnable. So 3 body shops (2 of them Ford) and 3 salvage yards later - still no tabs (called friction tab and jackscrew????). Anybody know where I might be able to find these without laying out another $211 for an entire mirror assembly. Truck is an 03 Supercrew Lariat with signals on the housing, no heat (complaint that a $35k truck didn't have heated mirrors). Would not be such a PIA except it is nice to move the mirror when backing a trailer. If one of you has these parts laying around (any body shop guys) I will gladly pay you reasonably for them. Thanks, Mike.
I had to go onto E-bay and buy a whole mirror to get those. I called them ball studs, but they're the FRAGILE plastic studs run into the motor, right? It would have cost an arm, leg, and one unmentioned reproductive organ to get parts from the dealer; e-bay cost was less than $50 bucks, including shipping, for two complete used mirror assemblies.
yeah - having an issue with that also. I tried ebay before going to the dealer, but every one of the ads states "accept supercrew". I was unaware my mirrors were different than the standard or extra cab. If yours is a supercrew and you could look up who on ebay you bought from - I would appreciate it. Were taking the boat a little north for scallop season and would be great to have it fixed by then.
Thanks, Mike
ncranchero - I need one of each. Actually it was your post that I stumbled across one night that made realize I was missing those parts (then of course it made sense). If you have them I would much appreciate it. I did find an ebay place and bought supposedly a whole mirror assembly for $36 shipped from CA. Obviously, I am not too optimistic about this, but the guy swore it was a whole replacement and it could be returned. www.carpartswholesale.com is who I bought from. FD56ER is the part number, but now that I look, it does not say that it works on a Lariat Supercrew. If you can't find any, I might be able to at least "pirate" parts off of this thing. Thanks, Mike.
A tip to remember when messing with these mirrors is to heat the plastic back, with a hair dryer or heat gun, when removing/installing the little white pieces. Makes the socket easier to pop the ball into or out of. Just don't over do it! I'll let you know what I find on the pins by this afternoon.
Give me an extension on time here. I split the top of my hand open this morning and spent more than a few hours in the ER getting sewed back together. I'll try & get back to you tomorrow.
ncranchero - no worries, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out whenever you get a chance. When this mirror that I ordered comes in, I am hoping that it will have the parts on it that I can use. If not, back to square one and asking around.
Again, much appreciated, and if I get this mirror before hand and the parts work - I will let you know.
What did you do to your hand? I hope they fixed you up ok.
By the way I like your NOBAMA.
Hauling off an old sofa ... in the van since my pickup is without fuel pump at the moment. The back door opening on this new van doesn't have the trim lacing around it, just exposed pinch weld. Rough on the old body if you hit it! 1st order of the day is to find some trim to put on it!!
........McCain doesn't thrill me but NOBAMA for sure!!
received my replacement mirror today (arrived broken) but I was able to get the parts I needed off of it. Thanks for the replies. Also thanks for offering to look for the parts for me ncranchero, but I am all set now.
got it from here www.carpartswholesale.com. (Hope I am allowed to post that). Entire assembly was $36 shipped from CA. It looks like very good quality (aside from the fact that where the mirror hooks on was broken). But like I said - I only pirated out the parts I needed. They actually had a little different design on the friction tabs which looks like it is better. Also if you have a Lariat, you will have to pull the colored molding off of the back. Again, I did not do all of this so I can only say it looks like good quality. The brand is Kool Vue. Also, to put in to perspective, I paid $70 for just the glass from Ford and it did not come with the mounting parts. The parts guy graciously pointed that out afterwards when he was explaining to me that I could not return it. Sure do wish we had a decent dealership here in the Tampa Bay Area. In our area you would think they can not keep vehicles on the lot - the way they treat people.
Not that Fords program it great with these mirrors, but I done enough of them I would have told you about the tabs not coming with the Glass. But if anyone wants the Ford OEM mirror assy I can at least save you some money if you have to buy one.
