I am looking for used rims on a local site. My problem is I'm not sure what I'm looking for. For example what does 5X100 mean? I know the five is for the lug nuts but what is the 100 and how do I masure that? At the moment I have standard 16" rims but I think I would like to put bigger tires on it. Should I go up to a 17" rim? Will rims for a chevy fit a ford? Does the year matter? I have a 2001 F150 XL 2X4. Thanks for any help!
You have 5x135 with 14mm studs, plan accordingly. I haven't known any chevy rims that fit Fords for a very very long time. They haven't had the same bolt pattern for quite a while. Usually Ford and Dodge are the same. Also remember yours are metric AND hubcentric.
The 5x135mm bolt pattern is unique to Ford. DO NOT use wheels from another brand of vehicle. They WILL NOT fit correctly.
The wheels on these trucks are also hub-centric. Not the typical lug-centric. In Hub-centric, the weight of the vehicle rides on the inner hole of the wheel. The lug-nuts are purely there to hold the wheel on...NOT to support weight.
Lug centric are the opposite, as the lugs hold the wheel on AND support the weight of the vehicle.
