I am getting a popping/banging noise from the what feels like the left side of my truck via the floor board. The noise is audible and can be felt by all passengers, sometimes is so dang loud I swore I hit something. It happens when the truck is at a complete stop and I take off going straight or turning left. It happens in reverse and turning right as well just not as often as the other combination. Everything seems tight underneath as my fat butt isn't getting anything to move around when I tug on it. The truck has had the problem since 25000 and she's almost at 36 now. I have been to the dealer 3 times now on this and the last time they tried to tell me it was because the drive line was not shimmed properly resulting in the shaft under preload kissing the trans. How is that possible when it's a two piece shaft and that particular piece is fixed? The 2nd half articulates and moves with the axle while floating in the carrier bearing. Maybe I am wrong there. Anyhow I am frustrated and at a loss right now. Any ideas? The truck has a 6" Fabtech 4 Link lift and 37" Tokyo's on it, outside that 100% stock. Pitman Arm? Cross-member moving?
I have the same problem too, I looked everywhere underneath the truck to try to find out what it is, I even checked my brake calipers to make sure they were not loose, it pops really loud sometimes when I hit the brakes. I took it in and they told me the same thing about the driveshaft part. Here for a while it has not been doing it, and then it starts again, I dunno what it is, but it is annoying as heck sometimes.
It happened to my truck. It's your lift kit. The axel is moving around but I can't remember what the hell it's called. A tech at 4wheel parts fixed mine for free. It's a bolt that is too small and backs itself out. It needs to be torqued down to like 300 ft lbs. DAMNIT, I can't remember what it was! Take your truck in to wherever you got the lift done and have them check it out. Anybody know what I'm thinking of. It's not your pitman/castor/camber. What the hell
I only have a leveling kit on mine w/33" tires and I torqued then down when I put them on as per instructions, I even checked them again with an impact wrench when I was under the truck looking for the problem.
I have taken my truck back to the Dealer who installed the lift which was the Ford Dealer, I bought the truck brand new that way. They do the lifts themselves, they have retorq'd everything so they say each time. I am at the point of calling Fabtech if I have to but I know their first line of defense is talk to the installing dealer which is where I have been. If you remember what it's called let me know or heck just tell me where it's at. I will have them torq it or I will. I will also call fabtech on Monday worst case. They are close I just need to take time off to go visit them.
Bob your saying the leaf springs I am assuming the rears, why do you think it's them? I don't have front leafs the 06 have coil springs.
My 2006 has a similiar noise after ive been beating on it it has a 8 inch procomp lift and the rear leafs make the noise but it seems to be in the floor i had my buddy follow me and said its coming out of the leafs. On some of the older trucks the front sway links go bad and feel like something is slamming against the floor i have done a ton of them in my shop.
Hay, I have a leveing kit on my 03' F350 thats seams to be doing the samething. is there a danger of it falling apart? I will call the people that did the lift and ask them about it.
This site is the best for information. Thanks Guys.
