I just replaced filter and fluid with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Have 2 trans coolers, an after market, and the stocker, and my trans temps after driving only a few minutes sky up to 215-225. I am planning on a new trans anyway, but want this one to last until I get the money set aside for a new one. Any thoughts on this? I checked the fluid and it was still clean and didn't smell burnt. I don't know if I just have a bad gauge or bad sender.
Do you set a cel? What about lockup, is it firm? You should NEVER keep that stock piece of junk inline with an aftermarket. Stockers just take up space and do nothing else.
no cel, should I check for any stored codes? Lockup seems firm, but the is the first truck I have owned with an auto. I was going to have a new transmission put in anyways, but really need this one to last at least a few months until I can do it.
If its getting that hot that quickly, you either have a block, your tc is shot, or your tranny is gone. If your in od, and your cruising at 50 mph or so, and you accelerate SOME, as in it DOESNT kick down for another gear, do the rpms slide up without speed increase? If they move even 100 rpm as soon as you push down on the pedal, you found the problem. If the rpms dont move 100 or more instantly, your tc is fine. Try this first, see what you get.
Did you temps do this before the new cooler? Do you have any way to check temps with a scanner? I am just wondering if the sender is off or the guage has a problem if you just put it in.
well when I bought the truck the guage wasin but was not hooked up, don't know if it was ever hooked up or wasn't working right so it was disconnected. I have another gauge so I am going to try that and also check the temp with a Thermometer. I have a 6.0 trans cooler coming. So I will check some other things out tomorrow when I get home from work. *Also when I got th filter I just matched it with the old one, I was asked if I had a deep or shallow pan. The one I got was for a deep pan b/c that's what was in there before, but to me it's a stock pan and shallow, I am wondering if the pickup on the filter is bottomed out on the pan and not letting enough fluid through.
The 4wd pan is deep and the 2wd is shallow. If you had a 4wd filter in a 2wd pan it wouldn't fit. It would be an inch short of mating the trans so that shouldn't be your issue. Verify the temp with another gauge and/or the thermometer.
installed new gauge same temps reading, read temp with thermometer and it was 120 at idle where the gauge was reading 225, so I guess I have found the problem and it's a bad sender, which makes me upset since I just got this new gauge and sender. Another question when you put that gauge in does it automatically ground itself or do you have to run a sep. ground for it? Don't think that is my problem but curious.
