I have a hyrbid truck(kinda)... last owner thought it was a 1977 because it is titled that and the vin is 1977 but the truck is actually at 1978(yes im sure.) I put a new power steering gear box on and I have no idea how to route the high pressure line on it and I think they have a 1977 high pressure line on it also... here is picture of similiar line and I dont know how to get it on this box. PICTURE PLEASE!!! ASAP!!
It is a 1977 December truck so its basically a 1977 Year with 1978 everything, im not really sure what is going on with line but it doesnt look like it will go into the gear box the way it is... The truck is a 1978 F150 4WD

Welcome to FTE
New model introduction occurs in September of the previous year.
New model production usually begins in August, so vehicles with a production date of 8/77 / 9/77 / 10/77 / 11/77 and 12/77 will be a 1978 year model.
1978: Ford changed the power steering pumps on all the cars, Bronco's and F100/350's. These are not the same as 1977's and earlier used.
The: Pump is different, so are the power steering hoses, the reservoir and dipsick are also different. See post #3 for the 1978 and later style pump.
The pump uses a plastic reservoir, the dipstick is plastic and its cap is flat with a handle on it.
The power steering pressure and return hoses have a straight tube with an O-Ring just before the end. 1977 and earlier hoses do not have this feature.
As original: All Ford power steering hoses have an ID number stamped on the swagged metal end.
The P/S hose pictured in post #1 is a 1977 and earlier hose.
WHAT year is it? The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN.
Post what these 6 digits are from the registration (title),not from the Warranty Plate located on the door.
Ppl swapped doors due to accidents, and didn't swap over the original plate. So the VIN on the Warranty Plate will not match the VIN on the registration.
Is your 1978 F150 4WD a V8 or a 6? Is it a Regular or a Super Cab?
I need this info to get you the correct P/S hose part numbers. All the hoses used 1978 and later are different than 1977 and earlier.
The problem you are faced with is nothing new to me, I've seen it many times before at Ford parts counters and here on FTE.
This P/S pump changeover has been a PITA since 1978. Now...throw in all the swapping of parts ppl do...
Thank you guys for the help but we got it and that is exactly what the hose looks like on it so the old owners must of though it was a 77 and the box fits and works fine, just had a brain fart and couldnt remember where it went Not our truck so im really not worried about how the pump hose gets to box because its not going to get much use at all and if something does happen we will end up fixing it anyway and if that time comes I guess we are switching to 78 hoses then.
