Vacuum pump woes again...
When I joined this site a few weeks ago my first post was about a loss of power brakes and was pointed in the direction of the pump.
So, I got the cheapo reman from autozone and it lasted for about a week. Pulling into work and I hear what I thought was brakes squealing, or belt slipping, but I wasnt even on the brakes, and there were no other cars around me.
After about 15 seconds of the squealing sound I hear the innards of the pump cracking and popping. Drove 2 more days with manual brakes, before I exchanged it on the 1 year warranty.
Now, I really cant afford the hydroboost mod, (if it can even be done on my truck), and even though I have the r&r down to about a half hour job, I dont want this to be a recurring issue.
The pulley seems to be aligned, by eye, and the belt rides perfectly on the side of the pulley.
Did i just get a junk pump, or could there be other problems? It seems like a pretty simple system, just asking because this is new to me. And, knock on wood, after how many times of this happening should I demand a 250.00 motorcraft pump from autozone?
Thanks

I am on the second vacumn pump since the truck was new. I replaced the original last year with a Motorcraft pump since the first one went about 260k miles. I bought it from The Powerstroke Shop and I don't think it was a $100.00 with shipping. If someone quoted you $250, you need to spend some time finding other sources.
