Well im just curious sence the 02 have pmr and i heard its not the hp that breaks them its the advance timging now if i tow about 5-6000 lbs in 120 race settin will that really hurt the motor?? or is it fine to do as long as you knwo watch the egt's ive been driving in it and i like the way it shifts better in 120 race and its just a lot allaround in 120
it'll be alotta strain on the tranny doing that: extra power, race shifting= most likely high egts and tranny trouble. just my $.02 but someone will chime in. I wouldn't do it though, you have a tow setting
You can tow in it, as long as you watch the EGT's. I tow most of the time in my second highest setting, which is a custom tune based off the 80e that actually runs stronger than my old 120 race tune. My tow tune now is based off the 40 tow setting, and has the same power as the old 80e tune.
Oh, and I have PMR's too, and probably more timing in my tunes than yours. Your engine should be fine.
Just because you have it in the 120 mode do not mean you have to use all 120 horses. As stated, watch your gauges and let your tranny tell you the best way to use the 120 hp you have. That being said, I would not try and use all the power you have everytime you take off, that could break something, but that's just me.
I use 80e most of the time, when I am towing something under 12,000 lbs. When I tow over that, I use 60t. Seem to work good for me. I won't tow in my 140 tune.
yeha i dont like my tow settin its slow revs too much and the way my progam is i have the stock tranny settin on and i have my shift kit so it shifts pretty hard I dont like the way it shifts with the shift kit tunes..... its pretty soft and when i am in the 60 it revs wayy tooo much for how slow im going lol soo i like 80 but then it goes into overdrive too soon... but the 120 is perfect haha and i dont beat on my truck when i tow just for the fact i dont have 2000$ for my tranny right now
Just drive it like you want it to last, in which ever tune does the best, and it will be fine. Like I said, the 120 tune just means it there if you need it, and only if you need it.
my truck is pretty amazing for towing i love it it goes up hills in overdrive friggen awesome!!!!!! pullin my boat i love it lol its what ive alwasy pictured a diesel should be but man if its not chiped its pretty much worlthless lol i don tknow if i could live with out it chipped
I use 80e most of the time, when I am towing something under 12,000 lbs. When I tow over that, I use 60t. Seem to work good for me. I won't tow in my 140 tune.

LOL, I've done that too, and with someone in the right hand land with their window down. My tailpipe is just the right height...
