Thanks, I did try that and several other decoding sites but no luck. I have only found that it was manufactured in Ontario, Canada. Thanks for the link though.

I've had the same luck with VIN decoders. I tried obtaining a build sheet from ford even and that turned up nothing...so far. But you could try going that route and going to ford's website and going to "contact us" send them an email requesting a build sheet and give them the VIN. Hopefully this will get you the information you're looking for.

well, I tried decoding it for you (I thought maybe it was just y'alls computer or something). I guess I got the same thing as y'all. it said like everything is unknown or something. but it did say May 1972 as built date.

Thanks for trying. I have tried everything, even going to Ford but they say they no longer have the records. I was hoping that someone would have an old shop manual with the information on the vin decoding (normally found in the first 10 pages. When I bought it, it said that it was a 1974. I have rechecked the vin several times to make sure there is no mistake. I have spent hour on the internet hoping to come up with something. No luck

Welcome to FTE

Look no further, the Big Dummy can decode every Ford Truck VIN from 1948 thru 2002.

F60 = F600 2WD

D = 330 Heavy Duty FT Engine / 2V Carb

C = Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant

P30429 = 1972

156" Wheelbase

M = Wimbledon White

F605 = 1972 F600 2V Gas / 19,200 lbs. GVWR

4B8: 4B = Heavy Duty Black Vinyl / 8 = 81A Standard Cab

4 = Clark Model 280VO / 5 Speed Overdrive

E20: E2 = Eaton Model 16244 2 Speed Rear Axle / 6.17-1 & 8.58-1 / 17,500 lb. Rear Axle Capacity / 0 = ?? > >

> > Look at that third digit of 0 again, that's the weight code for the front axle, but there's no 0 (zero) listed. Should be a letter, but not an O. Could be a D?

VIN & other data decode source: 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog

The Front Axle Code could also be a number, but only from 1 thru 9.

If the 0 turns out to be a D = Ford-Rockwell (Timken) / 7,000 lb. Front Axle Capacity.

btw: You can buy a CD version of the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog (same one I'm using) from hipoparts.com, also sold on ebay. The price is $22.95.
