I recently used this forum for engine diagnosis with great sucess so here I am again with a new question.
Today I installed my new Clarion DVD player in my 2002 F150. I had to do some light dremel work to get a good fit but after a little trimming it slid right in.
My problem is that if someone wants my head unit, it can slide right out. It did not come with a traditional sleeve that you pop the tabs out on.
there is some plastic supports still behind my dash that I could drill through and run a screw into the side of the unit but it's still plastic.
Does anyone have some advise on a sold mount? right now she's all put together and drove 40 miles with out any movement but it's still in the back of my head.
I did not take pics before work so Ill post them in the am, but this is a stock photo of the unit.
I'm not sure how the F150 radio mounts in the truck, but I know that I used the Metra 99-5805 dash kit to install a double din unit in my 99 F250. It might work for you too. There are grooves in the plastic side pieces the fit around the lip at the sides of the radio opening. Then you slide the radio in between the two side pieces (it is a tight fit), and then screw the plastic side pieces onto your radio.
If your worried about it working its way back out then take a small chain and hook it to the screw hole on the back of the deck 4mm if I recall. Then route the chain over the cross member then down to a spot where you can hold it with a screw.
I do this with my decks so the damn theives will distroy the deck if they try to slide it back out.
