I'm looking at replacing the current speakers in my truck with new 6 1/2" ones in the doors and 6x9's behind the seat. I'm looking for good sound but don't want to spend more than $125 per pair. Any recommendations? I'm kinda leaning toward the Pioneer TS-A6975 in Crutchfield for the rear.
I agree that pioneer is a good brand, that is what almost everyone around town that I know has used. I'd recomend going to a local Wall-mart, they sale some good pioneer 6 1/2s and some pioneer 6x9s for about $75 a pair.
Logan is right. Pioneer is Pioneer, irregardless of where it is purchased you will still get Pioneer's warranty cards on anything you buy new. You will save your self a lot of money, the sound will be 100% better, and you could run a small amp to each pair if yo wanted to improve the sound even more.
Crutchfield ehhh, not many choices here but the Infinity Kappa 62.1i 6 1/2'' 99.95 and Infinity Kappa 692.1i 6x9'' 139.95 or the Infinity Reference 6953i 6x9 149.95, either way you go you wont be over your 250 dollar budget and will have a great sound stage, now you need some subs
I actually was thinking about subs too, but what is involved with that? Would I need an amp for them? I'm not looking for one of those "thump thump" systems, just great sound.
Thump thump sux, great sound is well great, yes you will need a amp depending on what subs you get, the sound quality you want will not be found at circuit city or best buy or any other major retailer, and it can get costly, how much do want to spend ?
www.discountcarsterer.com seems to have great prices(often lower than crutchfield) and a pretty nice selection of speakers. If you want pioneer, I would look there. As for a sub, good luck.
Is under $500 too cheap for anything good? So I need an amp, just for the sub? Or do I need one that powers the other speakers plus the sub? I'm not quite sure how everything is connected yet. Sorry for so many questions, I've never done anything more than your basic head unit with a couple speakers.
For your application I would just use the amp to power the sub (subs), under 500 could probably done if you use a single sub as you suggested, and you could probably get by with about 250 watts of power depending on which sub you get, try to stay away from Rockford Fosgate, Cheaper Mtx, Jensen, Boss, Rampage, Power Accoustics, anyhting cheap is going to be just that cheap, Phoenix Gold, Memphis, Orion, JL, Xtant,U.S. Amps, Audiobahn, etc etc, and for speakers look to the more expensive MTX's as these may suit you for budget reasons, some others to look for are Kicker the sqaure solo baric (L7) is a great sub, Audiobahn, Focal, JL the W3 not the W0, Memphis Studio Series, Diamond M3 or M5 the Hex or Macdaddy 10'' is $400 so thats a little pricey on a $500 budget, Eclipse, Digital Designs, Hollywood, the list goes on and on, if you have any pro audio shops in your area I would suggest visiting them and look around and ask to hear speakers and see what you like, Tell the salesmen what you want to do and how much you wanna spend and see what the recomend, but dont use their recomendations as a rule of thumb as they will lie threw their teeth to sell you their brand and keep you away from another brand that they dont carry but the guy down the road does, it is a great time to be into car audio there are so many excellent products on the market its hard to build a bad system (some still manage too) just find out what you like and maybe save some more cash, if you are serious about your music and like it loud it may becomne an addiction lol good luck and stay away from fosbreak
The easiest thing to do is get a four channel amp. Then run your front speakers(6.5's;6x9's) off the first two channels. Then run the back two channels bridged to one good sub; my preference in your situation would be a Kicker 8 inch L7 solobaric or a ten inch MTX t-6000. Not trying to start a brand battle. You say you don't want a thump-thump system so you only need one small sub to help your front stage out. With running this set-up the sub on't over power everything. I ran this set-up in a T-bird with a strong 4channel amp and a great 12 inch sub. Worked great no problems easily hit 140db when my nephews took to stereo shows. Try these sites out. http://www.tmselectronics.com/ or http://www.thezeb.com/ they seem to have good prices but I have not gotten anything from them.:->
A former audiophile here, but about 3 years removed from the hobby. The guys have given you good advice, I personally love the Infinity Kappas, and if I were you I would not even bother installing new speakers of any kind without an amp. Amp power is better in every way compared to deck power. If you run subs then you ABSOLUTELY HAVE to use an amp. However, amps are a major PITA to install. You will need to run a heavy-gauge power wire from the battery, send input to it via RCA cables, which works a whole lot better if you have an aftermarket deck with RCA outputs. Also you have to run a remote turn-on wire, and run wires from your amp to your speakers. If you are willing to do this, and since you are on a tight budget, I would suggest a 4-channel amp wired like the other guy said. I am not up to speed on brands, but subs vary, and you want an efficient one, i.e. one that doesn't need a lot of power. Also the box is crucial; you can't just stick it in, it needs a sized enclosure. Let us know what you decide.
they actually have amps now that are signal sensing, they dont need a remote turn on, they sense signal via the rca cable, i mean its not saving you that much since you still have to run the rca's from the deck, but still a noteworthy feature, and look for a class d amp as these are about 90% efficent, class t is about 92% but selection is limited and not doable on your budget
i just installed lanzar speakers in my truck and i gotta say they sound awesome.they are a little cheaper than the price range you are looking at and they are kick *ss speakers.

I don't know very much about amps either, but I have ben looking around and trying to learn everything I can. http://www.crutchfield.com sales what I think is called a "tri-way", it takes two channels, and allows you to run a sub. I don't know exactly how it works, but it probbably just sends the low frequencies to the sub and everything else to your back speakers. I would look at one if I were going to install a sub. I would love to install a sub, except they are too expensive for me, and I have a reg cab(abesolutly no room behind the seat), and I dought I would like the ruesults if I installed a sub under the seat.
