Automatic door lock feature

Well, I've searched for this problem, and read thru the tech article on replacing the actuators, but my problem isn't that the actuators wearing out, its that the automatic locking feature (where the locks automatically lock once you start driving) isn't working for some reason. Not that it really bothers me, but my wife can't stand not having the doors locked when driving around here in Detroit. Any help or ideas will be appreciated!!

Are you the original owner of the X? If not the original owner may have disabled the autolock feature. On page 92 in the 05' owners manual it shows you how to cut this feature off and on. I personally don't like the autolock feature, but thats just me. Hope this helps.

Well, I have perfect instructions on how to enable and disable the Ford autolock feature on vehicles so equipped, but unfortunately due to the FTE forum coding, a person cannot copy and paste from a Word doc, if there is a lot of info being pasted over. For some reason, it reads the formatting from the MS Word doc as containing too many images, which automatically keeps the post from going through, even though no images are present.

Send me an email to StarGazr9z at aol dot com and I'll send you the Word doc containing the instructions.

Hmmmm, I have an idea. I'm gonna try and post the instructions in increments, adding portions through the use of the edit button to see if I can get around this very frustrating problem.

Here are the instructions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enable/Disable Ford PATS Autolock

The enable/disable mode allows the autolock feature to be turned off and on. On manual transmission vehicles, when replacing the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module, the autolock feature must be turned off by using the enable/disable mode. The enable/disable mode is entered when the following series of steps is performed:

1. Confirm that the perimeter alarm is disarmed.
2. Close all doors.
3. Confirm that the ignition switch is in the OFF position. Note: Steps 4 through 8 must be performed within 30 seconds.
4. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
5. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
6. Turn the ignition switch from RUN to OFF.
7. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button three times.
8. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
9. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn. This indicates that the RAP module is now in the enable/disable mode and ready to accept program changes.
10. Press the power door lock UNLOCK button one time to command the RAP module to toggle the autolock/relock feature ON or OFF.
11. Press the power door lock LOCK button once to enter the command.
12. If the vehicle horn chirps once, the autolock/relock feature has been disabled. If one chirp is heard, followed by a longer honk, the autolock/relock feature has just been enabled. Go back to step 10 if the feature you want is not the one that's been activated.
13. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position to exit the enable/disable mode.
14. Verify that the RAP module chirps the horn once to indicate that a feature has been changed. The autolock and the appropriate alarm configuration are turned on at the factory on vehicles with automatic transmissions. Vehicles with manual transmissions have the autolock turned off at the factory. The RAP module returns to the prior setting any time battery power is interrupted.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well looky there! It worked!

Hope that helps.

Thanks Guys!! Yes, I'm the original owner, my daughters have been playing in the truck lately (don't know why, there's a park across the street) and may have disabled it somehow. Also, I can't locate the dang owner's manual, girls again, I'll bet!! Like I said, it doesn't bother me, but the wife wants it to work. John

P.S. Got it to work!! Thanks again!!!

Thanks.

I trained hard...

I studied it's tactics....

I memorized it's moves...

...and I persevered.

It was a worthy opponent, but in the end, all that sucker is, is coding. Just plain, simple coding. There hasn't been a code written that is smarter than the human brain.

Darn skippy!

I tell ya, it wasn't easy...I sweated bullets. I strained muscles. I gritted my teeth and I dug in, because I was not going to be deterred!

I triumphed!!!!!!!
