Okay, I was thinking of getting an Edge for my truck to help improve towing a 7500lb loaded Travel Trailer. I've done a search on this board and I've found an ocean of Edge posts. From transmission failure warranty voids, to happy customers, to problems and codes you name it. Could I ask for some clarification on if this thing is worth the $400? I by no means want to void my warranty! Will I see a difference in towing my Travel Trailer? My truck is an 06 4x4 SCrew 5.4 Lariat with 24k miles and is primarily used as a tow vehicle. I appreciate any and all input. Thanks.
Yes you will see a difference pulling a trailer. I have a 06 FX4 and have pulled a 24' car trailer. In towing mode the edge shifts further apart and gives the engine a few more rpms before shifting. I would think this would be a good invesment. As far as voiding the warrenty, when you take it to the dealer for any service, take it out. It takes about 30 seconds and its out. I am happy with mine and I dont pull a trailer much, if I did I would like it more.
i agree with blue 2004... and for the warranty issue, first off the dealer has to be able to prove that any mod you have directly caused the defect you bring it in for. i havent heard of an edge unit causing any problems unless the user programs it incorrectly (timing being the biggest issue). if you remove the edge before going to the dealer, they wont know you have it. some people on here have been really lucky, and their dealers actually like the edge and will not affect any warranty claims.
Have you looked into custom tuning at all? I've had both. First I used an Edge for about a year and a half, then I switched to custom tuning from Troyer Performance. I don't have anything bad to say about the Edge, I never had any issues with it and I could feel an improvement over stock. I did notice an improvement over the Edge by going with the custom tunes though. I kept the Edge hooked up because I like its gauge features, but I don't use the programming anymore. You can get custom tunes with an SCT X-Cal 2, 3, or Live Wire from Troyer and VMP. You can also get a custom tuned Gryphon (Edge) from Power Hungry Performance.
