3M Weatherstrip Adhesive Release Agent...If anyone has used this or does use it, please share your experience with the product.
I will have to look at my stuff in the garage tonight to see its part number, but I know it specifically said woodgrain remover and it works great. I used it to remove the wood grain decal off of an old grand cherokee. Apply it generously and let it sit and the decal just shrivels up and falls to the ground - the adhesive is then very soft and slimey and practically wipes off. It will remove wax, of course, but is harmless to the paint.
One more question.......... Where do the door sill plates go in relation to the weatherstripping? Do they help clamp it down? Or do they go on the inside-truck side of the weatherstripping? I'm confused as to how that assembles at the bottom.
The scuff plates will sit over the weatherstripping a bit. You may have to crawl underneath to find your screw holes cuz the stripping will cover them up. This pic may help a bit.
This is an old topic, but if anyone is still subscribed THANK YOU!! I'm getting ready to replace the door weatherstrip on m 82 F150 and had no idea how to go about it. Great thread!!
How long does it typically take for the adhesive to dry doing this?
I used the 3m black silicone stuff on my Freestar and Fusion... Had some weatherstripping drooping from the top so I applied this rather than replacing the seals. It worked really well. I don't remember the specific dry time; it tells you on the packaging. I put mine on and let it sit over night with the doors closed. This was a couple years ago and the seals are still on as tight as can be. My only concern is if the seals ever fall apart; its gonna be a bitch getting that **** off.
I know Dennis Carpenter seems to get good reviews here... Does anyone have any feedback on Fairchild Industry products (Its another brand of weatherstripping)? JCWhitney & RockAuto carry these; they are a bit cheaper in price (About $10 - $15 per door for the outer seal). Don't want them if they are junk but I am otherwise always trying to get good quality for the best price.
