In my opinion, they are cheaper for a reason. Crutchfield is always a bit pricy, but has excellent service. Swing by http://www.mmxpress.com They have lots on sale plus John has always given me great service. Go to your local shop or Best Buy and audition the speakers, you won't regret it!
thanks for the reply
can you tell me what brands best buy carries... cause my "local" best buy is a long way away, and all the local places dont carry sony or kenwood or anything i like... besides sears which has the same prices as crutchfield.
It's been a while let me think... Clarion, Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, Alpine. Probably some more. If you are going to power these with the factory head unit, you'll be fine with the brands listed above. Sony is the only one I have heard complaints, none the less, you have to decide what you like.
arrghhh... that would be my luck. im wanting to get a sony.
do any of you guys know anything about the xplod cdx-ca650, thats what i intend on getting.
Are you planning to just change your head unit and nothing else? If so, you probably will do fine with the Sony. The problem with poor sound becomes prevalent to most when you add amplifier(s) to your system. Not to guide you completely, you have to make your own decision, I'm just giving you the red flag that I catch so much on other boards and newsgroups. For $30 more you can get an Kenwood Excelon KDC-X615 ( http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-ydtgSKcArWY/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=300&I=113KDCX615&o=&a=0 ). In my own opinion, a much more reliable / better quality product. Best of luck in your decision.
eventually im planning on revamping the entire system, (it has like a 1800's audiovox{?!?!?!}cassette receiver and some generic speakers)im gonna start with a cd player and a pair of 6x9s(i dont intend on amplifing{sp?} the speakers, but later on i would like to get a sub and would amplify it. i was considering a kenwood before i really looked over the prices and specs closely, i like the features and power on the sony, and i saw some kenwoods at sears and i thought they looked kinda cheap, but i do like kenwoods, the price is a little out of my range right now. could you give me some examples of the problems with the sonys?
thanks again, aaron
I personally love Sony head units. I have never had any problems with any of the head units I have owned (5 in the last 10 years, I have gone through a lot of cars), and I bought them basicly on looks. However, I would NEVER buy sony speakers. Sony's core competence is not making speakers, and there are too many alternatives out there that sound so much better for the price. This all being said, I would highly suggest amplifying your speakers.
Even the worst speakers can be made to sound SOOOO much better when properly amplified. Go into a high end store and ask to hear a cheap to moderate speaker running off just the head unit (preferably one that you are interested in purchasing), and then ask them to run the same speaker through an amp. Base your decision on what your ears are telling you. Listen for how crisp and clean the notes sound not how loud it plays. Take a CD that you listen too, or I have found piano music personally shows off speakers the most.
I have found that on a limited budget, it is best to spend money on amplifying your speakers to get a full rich sound, and add a bass box later. Don't worry too much about the head unit, because if you don't intend to power your speakers from it, how important is it?
dang, it keeps getting more expensive!
alright ill go into a shop and have them do that.
im pretty sure my friend doesnt amplify his speakers and they sound real good...
