Some experienced help please.....

You don't need to spend alot to get a good clear..
Finish master sells a product called Smart clear (3900 ) ..cerry good price for a Kit ..around $50.00 a gallon....I also use a product called Production clear ,, from auto value ...
But I would say base/urethane clear would be the easiest and wisest choice in most cases. Its what most body shops would be using everyday. The base dries fast, and if you do make a mistake in the color, most of the its only a matter of waiting a while and blending in more color to fix the spot. Also I feel its easier to spray metallics in a basecoat, where you don't have to worry about keeping a deep gloss along with even metallic like a single stage. Also a good idea to use base/clear with metallics and pearls, because the clear gives more uv protection to the color, and will be needed if you plan to cut and buff a metallic afterwards to take out dirt nibs or minor imperfections. Also future repair should be easiest in the future with a base.clear.
I use to choose dbc base when it was my choice doing things at home, but don't like the costs of ppg, dupont and other big name colors so much anymore.
Although I have not used it much yet, so far the base with the best value for the money has been pro-spray, which was bought by us chemical (sell a lot of fillers and other body supplies. The color I bought was half what dbc would have been, it covered in two coats, and wasn't a slow drying enamel based basecoat like omni is. Utech didn't seem too bad either. I've used omni and limco before and they are slow because they are enamel based, and coverage often doesn't seem the best. Being slow if you don't leave a good amount of flash between coats, and between base and clear it could really come back and bite you and ruin the job. Not sure how good pro spray and utech are for color match, as I've only used for completes.
The best clear I've used so far for the money is southern polyurethanes universal clear ( a polyurethane). It mixes 1 to 1, 2 sprayable gallons (enough for two average size cars) comes to about 200 bucks. Baker Pbe warehouse sells it and ships very reasonably if not a jobber n your area.
I personally would not cheap out too much on the clear that is the protection if you are spending a decent amount of money for the base coat. There are a lot that will spray nice, but if its longevity is shorter or it chips easy, there goes a lot of time and money spent on other materials shot.
