I'm looking to replace the HUGE west coast mirrors my truck came with with something smaller but still useful. There was a reference to retrac or something like that and I found the following 3 mirrors that looked they were period appropriate and would work - anyone have any experience with these?
there from the 80's i think. yo will have to do something with the original holes in your truck.you would have to try one of the brackets to see how it will fit the body.

The first style is what is on my 80 Bronco, I have added a set of extinders that I got off a 81 Ford full size fan, for pulling a trailer. I have no problems with them, and the replacemeng heads are still around.
i love the ones that i have, they are like the third one you posted, but it hangs out away from the truck more. This alows me to trn the miror around and have it close the body and over the suports bars but when i tow i can turn it back out and have it hanging off of the suport bars away from the truck...Works great!
Here is a pic with them turned in to the truck. I can turn it 180* and then flip the miror for towing.
I'm sorry for the typo, fat fingers. Yes the Van had a clamp on bar that the mirror head bolts on to and it slides in and out with a thumb set screw. I don't have a digital camara to post pictures. But they were on a stock set of mirrors.
The third one you pictured,or the ones Brady pictured on the crew cab,IMHO look best on a truck of this era. ive seen this style on late 60's-70's pickups,GM,Ford,Dodge,IH,etc. For whatever its worth, I like the west coast mirrors on the old Fords........
We have the ones from the first link and they look pretty sharp. The only draw back is they are beginning to rust or corrode from age. If you'd like, I could stop by the truck tomorrow and snap a few pictures.

I bought a set of mirrors hoping they would be sleaker than west coast style. I trial fitted a pair to some old doors but you will need to play with the location front to back on the door to be usable.I think they looked too far back when you were able to see out the passenger side from the driver's seat. The angle on the mounting pad is somewhat off to provide a level mounting. However I think most of this can be tweaked to look good. There also used to be an add on extender for this style. They were factory on the pre-97 trucks.

These pictured mirrors are similar to the types first used in 1973.
Ford did not offer these low mount "Swing Lok" types as original on bumpsides, or anything else.
In order to use these 1973 and later mirrors, y'all may have to bend the bracket for the mirror to sit level because the '67/72's door contour is different.
Brady Couchman's Crew Cab has: D5TZ-17696-A mirrors, first offered in 1975.
These mirrors were standard equipment on 1975 and later Super Camper & Trailer Specials, optional on other models.
Be careful where you install these 1973 type low mount mirrors.
If too close to the vent windows, you may not be able to open them fully, because the vent glass will hit the mirror head.
interesting Bill i didnt not know that, they seem to fit just fine.
These F Series camper mirrors will work on anything pretty well,
BUT...the 1975 and later Econolines also used similar mirrors, and while they look the same, are not the same, and fit Econolines only. The Econoline mirrors are D5UZ-17696-A.
The replaceable goose-necked mirror head is the same for both: D5TZ-17723-A.
1975/91 Econoline mirrors don't work too well on any F Series truck, because the Econoline's door contour is flat as a board.
