Yes, there is one screw under one of the two flip down doors (for the garage door opener, or the sunglass holder). It will pull down with a few quick tugs on the front and back. You might use a small bungee cord afterwards to
hold the console without placing too much tension on the wiring. There are just a few wiring connectors to unclip, and the console will drop down easily.
There are no push-pull cables like in the "old days" for the AC/heater controls. I've had to replace the "lie-o-meter" as they call it on my 2003.
Although mine is pretty accurate, so I didn't hesitate to get a replacement. Found it right here on this forum from one of the other members. There is a fix mentioned if you do a forum search, just didn't work for my issue.
Good luck.
No, one screw DOESN'T hold the console. The front has those push-fit clips, while the back has a piece of plastic that goes into a guide. Pull down the front and it slides forward a tad to come out of the guide. Unplug the connectors and "Bob's your Uncle". The thing only weighs about a pound (maybe). It will not put any undue stress on the wiring if you let it hang.
Okay...on edit... this is how it was on my 2000 and my current 05. Maybe they changed something in the middle years.
