Rear Main Seal

My rear main seal in the oil pan is starting to leak pretty good. Can this be changed with the motor in the truck? If so how hard of a job is this?

Are you sure the rear main seal is bad?
It's not in the oil pan but on the back of the block. The trans needs to be removed to service it.

If the oil pan gasket is leaking you will need to lift the engine a foot or so to get the oil pan off.

Be sure to look on the top of the engine for liquids, oil or fuel.

Look way down in the valley, most leaks start up there and then run down the rear of the engine looking like a rear main seal/oil pan gasket.

Yep x2 what cuda said. The Orings on mypedestal went oand started niagra falls both forward into the valley and back on top of the tranny. I couldn't beleive the amount of oil that came out so quickly. Everything is coated back to the rear bumper, but good news is it is a great rust deterent.

I took the dust cover off the bottom of the tranny and i can see the oil leaking out the seal on the oil pan right where the oil pan curves around the crank. I also have oil leaking from the front behind the thermostat.

Sorry Bad news, That's the oil pan gasket. You need to lift the engine about a foot or more to get the pan off for the repair. Big job, just as much work as pulling the engine out of the truck.
