Red face Gas to deisel switch

I wonder if anyone has done a gasoline to deisel engine swap?? Would I also need the CPU from the deisel vehicle to make it 'tick'? I'm thinking of mpg here..(switching my 351Cleveland to a 2.7 liter deisel, from a Bronco-like SUV, tranny & all)...also will a 2.7 liter deisel have nearly as much power as my 5.8 liter gas engine from takeoff, etc. or will I find it 'real doggy'? Anybody have any idea?

Hey,I'm currently in the process of doing a swap into a 1980 f-100 too. Best best is a 4bt cummins, direct swap for an I6 in an early ford. There's a big write up about them over at 4btswaps.com

Most diesels will feel "doggy" compared to a gas engine. They are not made for acceleration, they are made for pulling loads. Only the newer computerized turbo engines have the same get up and go as a gas engine.

So, if I got a 2.7 litre TD it wouldn't feel so 'doggy' then huh?? I live in the UK, where these have been in use for Fords for years, btw folks............

Since you're over in the UK, maybe try an NPR motor? they're the Jap version of our Cummins motors and I'm sure they're all over Europe. I'd think a 2.7 wouldn't have the displacement to really make that f-100 run.

No worries, they're owned by GM so it's not so bad. I gave my father-in-law a classic olds convertible and made him swear not to put a toyota motor in it. Isuzu's all good though, same vein as a duramax as far as I'm concerned.
