CRANK CRANK CRANK What is wrong
I just picked up a 2005 f250 6.0 I know nothing about diesels. sometimes when I try to start it, it cranks over. Other times it cranks and cranks and cranks for 10 to 20 seconds. I pre heat the glo plugs. What could be wrong what do I have to do to fix it and how much is it gonna cost.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

When it just cranks and cranks is it usually just after being shut down and the motor is hot? Common problem on the 05's is a connector on the HPOP that leaks when it is hot and you do no get the oil pressure needed to fire the injectors, it is called the STC fitting I thing, can't remember for sure though.

You are correct roller. It's probably either the STC fitting on the HPOP or possibly the ICP sensor. My vote would be the STC fitting since I haven't heard much chatter on the ICP sensor on the 05 model. Either way, it's covered under warrantee so I'd take it in. Eventually, it will leave you stranded.

I would say the stc itting also, Mine failed back in may. I disagree on the only hot thing as mine would only do it first start of the day, after that it was fine. Mine statrted on friday and was dead on sunday so try to get it in asap. it is covered b y warrenty just cost the deductible. good luck

crank problem
Thanks all I will have it at the dealer on Monday I hope.
Anyone know where I can access service manuals online, or do I have to buy it. As I said I know nothing about diesels although I have some basic mechanical skills and can do somethings if I had the book
Thanks again all
