86 Tailgate piece

Ive been looking for a new tailgate piece for my 1986 F150 Lariat, I know that they dont sell aftermarket ones for them so Im wondering how much they are worth. Ive looked and looked but cant seem to find a complete one in good shape.

I believe he is asking for the aluminum piece that fits on the outside of the tailgate.

It's a large aluminum brushed insert with a red strip on the bottom, with "ford" letters on the right side of the red strip. Simular in style to the one on the 1987-1991 trucks.

A very rare chrome piece indeed. They only were avaliable on 1985-1986 XLT and Lariats. Finding a good one will be difficult.

Actually, it is all aluminum with a black painted strip across the bottom.

The F O R D letters are applied via double back tape and are evenly spaced across the panel.

I have one on a rust free tailgate that I have for sale.

I'll try and post a pic later tonight.

Aww... Now I'm depressed, I wanted the tailgate insert for my 1985 F250 XLT Lariat so bad...

My red plastic is all broken....

Sorry for the confusion, what Im looking for is exactly what 81-F150-EXPLORER described. I have looked and looked but I have almost enough pieces to make a whole one now all I needed is a ''D''. Until today when I went to the local junkyard and found a complete one in good shape. I might sell the one my truck had eventually but it has no letters but I do have ''F O R'' for it from another truck. If any one is interested I might put it on the classifieds or ebay pretty soon.

I don't believe the 80/86 had the letters off to the side. I am pretty sure that started in 87.

Internet parts search: No Ford dealer has one.

greensalescompany.com has one NOS: 800-543-4959

Dennis Carpenter shows 18 of them on his NOS parts site (not the repop site). But these could be repops, dunno.

Thanks Bill. I'll see how much they want for the tail gate.

I totally forgot about that particular insert. I've only ever seen one in the junk yard, and some idiot ruined it trying to "pry" it off......

That's exactly what i want for my truck too.....But as aforementioned,nobody sells em aftermarket and all the junkyards i've been to they're either gone or all broken.

Now i believe NPD's got em for 87-96,but i'm not positive.
