keyless entry question

I recently purchased an '02 Excursion Limited, 7.3L powerstroke with 106K miles. The keyless entry code had been lost along the line... I did a search and found the module and code. The problem now is the vehicle does not respond to the keypad... I can punch in the numbers, nothing happens. all other functions seem to be fine but the keypad is more or less nonfunctional. is there an easy way to diagnose this?

So when you push a button the backlighting doesn't light up? If not, I would first check the actual connection.

You must remove the door panel (two bolts) and inspect the wiring to the keypad. Make sure the window is up. Check that and let us know.

the keypad does not illuminate... looks like I need to start checking fuses, then open the door panel... may be a while before I take the time to investigate. I'll look at the manual today, see if its on a standalone fuse.
