Hey. I have a 99 f150 4x4 that needs an engine. anyway i found a parts truck with a good engine and a 5 speed tranny for $700. I would also like to swap my auto for the manual the only thing is the parts truck is a 2wd. does anyone know what I will all need to do this? Is the output shaft different on the 2wd transmission? will the computer from the 2wd work on the 4x4? will the pedals, master cylinder etc. all bolt up? what about the steering coulum? any thing else? the parts truck is a 97 if that makes a difference.
i can tell you the output shafts are different. good luck with this swap... may i ask why you think the manual is a better option than the auto if your not towing?
i would measure the length of the tranny from the front to the rear of the output shaft, it it's the same I think all you have to do is unbolt the tailshaft and the transfer case assembly should bolt onto where the tailshaft cover was. Make sure you grab the pedals and the hydraulic clutch stuff. You will also need to grab the manual transmission wiring harness. It bolts onto the firewall on the passenger side, just swap it with your automatic wiring harness. You might also have to grab the computer from the 2wd since it will be programmed for a manual, I'm not positive on that though.
