Flowmaster 70 series

I just put a Flowmaster 70 series "Big Block II" in my 5.4L Screw, and boy am I pleased. If you are looking for a muffler that is a lot less restrictive and gives a little tone with almost no interior resonance, this is perfect. With the old muffler it literally had no exhaust note whatsoever at idle, and sounded strangled under accelleration. Now it has a very mild burble at idle, and sounds a lot cleaner under throttle. Once they cut the factory muffler out, I looked inside it and wow is it restrictive. The exhaust flows into a dead end pipe and out louvers cut in the side, then into 2 more of the same before it exits. No wonder it was so quiet. As a note, if you're looking for an exhaust that turns heads, this is'nt it, go with a 50 series as you'd likely find the 70 too quiet. Also, the part # for the one that welds right in (2.5" offset inlet, 2.5" offset outlet) is 52573. Finally for anyone in the Huntington Beach, CA area, I had mine done at Huntington Beach Muffler. Nice folks, reasonable price, and very high quality work.

What did this cost you to have it done?

Also, do you have some honest before-and-after mileage figures?

I'm interested to know what your mileage is, as well. My truck dropped 2 miles per gallon...the K&N system is helping...but not nearly as I would have hoped for.

It cost a total of $180 for the muffler and the work. The muffler was $120 and the labor was $55 and then of course the tax. As to mileage, I was getting about 14 before, and I spent the first tank after the install horsing the truck around just to hear it make noise. Thus, I've only run one tank thru it driving normally, but there was a definate improvement, mileage went up to almost 15 (14.7-14.8). That might not sound like much, but 1) the truck is brand new, and so the motor is still tight and getting poor mileage; and 2) the old muffler flowed much differently, so the computer uses a long average to control all the fuel delivery variables, so it needs time to get used to the new flow before it can really take advantage of it. Anyhow, I'm really satisfied, and I'm probably going to put a K&N on this weekend.
