On my 95' Explorer. Works great, very satisfied with the reception here in Southern California. Great programming, CD quality sound, no static. Signal dropout is very rare here.
Installed the Pioneer Tuner under the metal flap behind the rear seat, passenger side. Once you locate where the components go, it's a real easy install. This unit works with my factory stereo unit.
Of the current 100 channels, there 30 are commercial free, however this is not entirely true, as they all advertised other XM channel content. I haven't found this to be abusive or excessive.
I used the Terk model SR-2. This antenna is slightly smaller than a computer mouse. I comes in black color and matches the other roof mounted hardware perfectly.
The antenna is mounted on the rear rooftop with supplied double sided 3M foam tape. The very thin wires route under the rubber molding under the headliner, along the inside of the right rear quarter panel, and to the tuner unit located under the metal flap behind the right rear seat on my Explorer. No drilling necessary, and the wires are completely hidden from view. This is about as clean a install as you can get.
I've looked at the other units made by Sony and Pioneer, but consider the Terk model better because of the lower cost and lower profile. It's supposed to be car wash safe, however I always wash mine by hand.
There is a $30 rebate offer for this antenna thru 12/31/01. It retails for about $80. So with the rebate, this is hard to beat.
I have a $25 discount coupon for anyone that wants to buy from CRUTCHFIELD. All you need do is provide my customer ID # 13452590. You get $25 off your purchase of $250 or more, I get $25 credit toward future purchases.
