I think this would depend on which model JL subs you get. I have had JL W0's, and I have JL W3's right now. I think the Kickers would be better than the W0's, but the W3's would blow them out of the water.
For what it is worth I think they are about even up if you look at them on the same level such as high end versus high end low end versus low end. Both are very nice, I went with one 15 kicker comp and if you have room this thing will pound. I also have seen the the 3 12" from JL that you can get together in a box. They'll beat the hell out of ya. Good luck though either way you can't really lose
Diamond Audio kills both Kicker and JL. They feature the most accurate and hardest hitting as subs on the market to date. I have Diamond M5 series (components and sub) in my regulare cab ranger 4x4. I know whats up. My friends got 2 10" W0 JL's in his regular cab ram and my 1 10" Diamond M5 hits harder than his, he admits. I know whats up.
Sound may be similar but the kickers are built tougher. I have stabbed the cone and surround on my comp vr's with a phillips drill bit an ungodly amount of times and they don't even have dimples in them. I put them in my truck with the seat too far back and the were slammin against the back of the seat for three days and hav no damage whatsoever. I plan on buying 2 or maybe even 4 more of em.
Wake(up)stud:
The JL 0's are the low end JL speaker. I would wager that JL subs have been in more winning vehicles than any other subwoofer, even your precious Diamonds.
