injection pump question

I replaced a 93 7.3 with a 86 6.9 in a old purolator van. I installed the 7.3 pump on the 6,9 as it had the tps switch a rpm counter on the gear. was not sure of the 6.9 pump as it had been sitting for years. the truck starts and run good. timing set with marks about line width apart. It black smokes heavily 1/2 pedal or more. Is this pump too big for the engine? Can i turn the pressure screw down to reduce fuel or should i deal with using the original 6.9 pump? thanks Dave.

That pump is meant to be matched with correct injectors on the correct engine "93"

You can try retarding the timing rotate IP to drivers side........ 1 lines width..... You may have missed the exact gear timing if you removed the gear housing/pump and installed them on the 86.

Which direction is the line on the injector pump relative to the mark on the drive gear housing?
